7 factors that can improve your salary
Whether you are starting a new job, or have been in your role for a while, the thought of trying to improve your salary has probably been on your mind.
While proving your worth and benefit to the company are certainly important factors, there are other things that come into play as well. Here are just some of the things that can improve your salary.
Years of Experience
The longer time that you stay in a job, the more chance you have of increasing your salary since you are able to really grasp the ins and outs and learn and grow with the company. It also shows commitment and dedication to a company – much better than someone who chops and changes every 6 months.
If you end up applying for a new job, and the position requests five years of experience, you are in much better stead for getting the high salary range rather than the lowest number.
Qualifications & Certifications
While experience counts for a lot in today’s market, having a relevant qualification to support your experience certainly can improve your salary. Having a degree or masters’ in the field that you are working looks excellent on your CV and will give you the edge over others that do not have this.

Shift workers are often paid slightly more for working those odd hours such as nights or weekends since employers realise that working outside of ‘normal working hours’ means you need to adjust your lifestyle and lose precious time with your loved ones. If you are able to have flexibility with the shift times that you work, try putting your hand up for doing some weekend or night shifts from time to time, and reap the financial benefits.
Alternatively, doing some overtime every now and then will certainly help improve your salary. Some employers offer time and a half, while others will just offer a standard hourly rate. Doing a few extra hours every week adds up – but just make sure to check your contract to see what you are entitled to before making any commitment.
